The eighties in Bangalore… eat your heart out!

How fitting that this blog include a paean to the Bangalore of the 80s. Being a child of the eighties myself, I’d like to think that this was the decade that helped shove Bangalore across the line from halli to “happening”. Big hair, big earrings, big shirts, and big hearts… that’s what Bangalore was all about. And food.

Remember burgers at Indiana Fast Foods?

A Facebook group begun by Krishna Menon (who says he has a job in LA) with the aim of unearthing the “collective memory” of Bangalore’s eighties-era youth seems to indicate that everything revolved around food. Preliminary results of Menon’s experiment show that the “top three memories” are: the taste of the mayonnaise at Indiana, a popular fast food eatery; beer and food at Pecos, a pub; and icecreams at Lakeview and ChitChat-these last two being establishments that, sadly, no longer exist.
